Sydney, Australia – Friday, 13 March 2025 – Australian Associated Press (AAP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Adam Jacobs to its Board of Directors.
Jacobs is a co-founder of The Iconic, Australia’s largest online fashion retailer, as well as a co-founder and CEO of Hatch, a new platform matching young Australians to jobs based on skills and values.
AAP Chair Gail Hambly said Jacobs' appointment is a significant coup for the newswire.
"Adam is a highly experienced and successful business leader with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing a range of industries, including media," Hambly said. "His appointment to the AAP Board will be invaluable as we continue the transformation of AAP into a sustainable, not-for-profit media company.”
Jacobs said he is honoured to be joining the AAP Board.
"AAP is the backbone of trusted reporting in Australia and its role in providing credible, fact-based journalism has never been more vital. It is an honour to be joining the board.
“The business of news is struggling. The future of news lies in leveraging technology and new business models to rebuild trust and sustainability. I hope I can help AAP navigate these challenges.”
Jacobs started his career in strategy consulting with BCG and PwC, before launching The Iconic in 2011. In 2014, he was awarded the Young Executive of the Year, and runner up for Managing Director of the Year, by the CEO Magazine’s annual awards. In 2022, Jacobs was awarded Sydney University’s Alumni Award for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and in 2024, joined Sydney University Business School’s Board of Advice.
Jacobs’ appointment follows the appointment in mid-2024 of experienced finance executive Rachel Johnson-Kelly, whose career spans senior roles at Telstra, ASIC and IBM. Former AAP Chair Jonty Low also returned to AAP’s Board last year.
