Who We Are

AAP FactCheck works to minimise the spread and impact of misinformation and disinformation on social media and in the public discourse.

Our experienced journalists, producers and editors provide accurate and impartial analysis on a broad range of topics, free from political or commercial influence.

We do not unduly focus on one issue, one side of an argument or one source - instead we respond to the information environment in a uniform way, prioritising harmful and consequential false claims.

AAP FactCheck is committed to truth and accuracy, and our conclusions about the veracity of checkable claims are formed through rigorous questioning, careful consideration of evidence and robust verification and editing practices.

We provide third-party fact-checking services to both TikTok and Meta, but maintain full editorial independence at all times. AAP FactCheck adheres to world's best practices and has retained accreditation with the International Fact Checking Network (IFCN) since 2019.

Poynter Institute’s International Fact Checking Network

AAP FactCheck has been accredited with the International Fact-Checking Network since 2019. Achieving and retaining IFCN-signatory status requires demonstrated, high level commitment to excellence in fact-checking.

It also requires that an organisation be non-partisan, fair, and transparent about its editorial sources and funding arrangements, among other strict conditions.

AAP FactCheck Neutrality Statement

AAP has always been at the forefront of delivering impartial, independent and accurate news to Australia’s leading media outlets and beyond. It is one of only a handful of news agencies worldwide not fully-funded or influenced by its government.

AAP FactCheck was built on this foundation, and the articles we produce are driven only by the available evidence. In following the facts, we adhere to the AAP policies that protect and enhance our neutrality.

AAP FactCheck scrupulously avoids commentary, opinion and political bias. AAP Factcheck does not assign content to staff who have a conflict of interest. As outlined in AAP’s Code of Practice, failure to disclose a personal conflict can result in dismissal, at the AAP Editor’s discretion.
